Monsoon Season Is Stucco's Toughest Test
Scottsdale's monsoon season — roughly July through September — throws everything at your stucco walls: wind-driven rain, blowing dust and debris, sudden temperature swings, and humidity levels that Arizona homes simply aren't designed for. While stucco is one of the most durable exterior finishes in dry climates, monsoon season exposes every weakness.
The damage often isn't dramatic or immediate. It's cumulative — each monsoon season adds a little more moisture intrusion, a few more micro-cracks, and slightly more deterioration behind the surface. By the time you see visible stucco failure, the underlying damage has been building for years.
How Monsoons Damage Stucco
Understanding the specific mechanisms helps you know what to look for and how to prevent it:
Wind-Driven Rain Penetration
Normal rain hits your walls vertically and runs off. Monsoon storms push rain horizontally — sometimes nearly sideways — directly into cracks, unsealed joints, and porous stucco surfaces.
